Texas Tech EDGE Tyree Wilson
Wilson is a 6-6, 275-pound defensive end/outside linebacker who played a versatile role on Texas Tech’s defensive line. Most of Wilson’s reps came outside the tackle, but 119 of his 538 snaps came head up or inside the tackle, per PFF. And in 2021, Wilson spent 267 of 605 snaps as a head-up defensive end or as a defensive tackle.
An older prospect, Wilson will turn 23 years old in May. He spent two years at Texas A&M before heading to Texas Tech for his final three collegiate seasons. Wilson played 32 games for the Red Raiders, finishing with 29 tackles for loss and 15.5 sacks. The fifth-year senior registered seven sacks in each of his final two seasons.
Games Watched (as of 1/24): KSU (2022), TCU (2022), NC State (2022)
Projection: Base defensive end/nickel package interior rusher
What I Like
Big, long and powerful. If Wilson can catch a lineman just right, his bull rush can force a rapid backpedal into the pocket. His style is unorthodox, but he is physically a load for most college lineman to handle when he’s on the attack. Not many can match his levers and reach when he uses his tools well.
It’s hard to explain how he gets free of blockers at times, but Wilson can be slippery and slide off blockers just when it looks like he’s lost the rep. His hands stay active, even if they aren’t very polished. Also, his length helps him make stops outside his frame, even when he’s not in great position.
