Notre Dame TE Michael Mayer Scouting Notes & Projection
NFL Draft analyst Jon Ledyard offers his scouting notes and projection for Notre Dame TE Michael Mayer
Notre Dame TE Michael Mayer
In a draft where many of Mayer’s colleagues are of slighter of frame, his 6-4, 265-pound frame stands out. One of the thiccest of the top tight ends in the class, I don’t believe Mayer missed any games due to injury in his Notre Dame career. The true junior played 2,178 snaps in his three seasons with the Fighting Irish, with about 32 percent of those reps coming in the slot.
Not many tight ends in college football can boast the production profile Mayer accumulated at Notre Dame. Over 36 games, Mayer has 180 catches for 2,099 yards and 18 touchdowns. The past two seasons have seen almost the exact same high-level production from Mayer, who caught 71 balls for 840 yards and seven touchdowns in 2021, before going for 67-809-9 in 2022. Mayer may be a finished product already, but he’s only 21 years old, and won’t be 22 until July.
