Scouting Notes
Played slot cornerback in 2023 before moving to the outside in 2024, his fifth season, all at Texas. Clearly a good football player in their defense this past season, although the role was very streamlined to the scheme. Barron played in one of the zone-heaviest systems of any cornerback in the draft, specifically dropping to Cover 3 or Cover 4 zone on almost every snap.
To get a feel for Barron outside of this exact role, you have to go back to his 2023 tape, when he played in the slot more. Unfortunately, limitations arise watching him play more man coverage and turn and run from a press or soft press alignment. Barron already isn’t the biggest cornerback, so seeing receivers run by him was a bit startling for a player who played his best football on the outside in 2024.
