Scouting Notes

Despite Stewart’s size, he’s an extremely tough customer whose physicality will never be questioned. Watch him take on a puller as the end man on the line of scrimmage and you’ll know what this guy is about. Self-preservation is of no interest to him. Knowing that you’ll get the right play demeanor and effort from Stewart is a good starting point for his evaluation, especially considering his lack of mass and length would make him quite the outlier at EDGE in the NFL.

Stewart getting to 249 for the Combine was impressive, but his playing weight is likely closer to the 242 he landed at for his recent pro day. The weight itself isn’t a massive concern, but when you combine it with how dense his frame is and how short his arms are, you start to see why the profile is a bit concerning.

Unfortunately, those concerns show up on tape despite Stewart’s best efforts. Once in awhile he will catch an opposing blocker just right and chuck him aside, revealing the pop and power in his hands. But more often than not, Stewart can’t win the reach battle and allows bigger, stronger players into his frame. That can result in wrestling matches, struggles to disengage and getting bounced around at the point of attack. Even tight ends put up a good fight against Stewart. Illinois TE Tanner Arkin is a good blocking tight end, but he shouldn’t be able to rough up Stewart on a handful of reps.
